WEA in the LA Times

Raymond Pettibon, the contemporary artist who sprang from the L.A.’s punk rock scene, has sold a property in Venice for $1.219 million.

The Craftsman-style house, built in 1923 and zoned as a duplex, sits in the heart of so-called Silicon Beach. The “fixer,” as it is described in the listing, has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and 2,512 square feet of living space.

Interior arches and hardwood floors hint at the property’s early days. Artistic doodles adorn the walls in several rooms.

Pettibon, 56, got his start as a bass player, designing albums covers and fliers for Black Flag. Today his work hangs in major museums worldwide. His dystopian topics pull from American culture, and his cartoon-style drawings and paintings often incorporate quotes.

The property last sold in 2006 for $1.1 million.

Richard Ehrlich of Westside Estate Agency and Solo Scott and Allen Sarlo of Re/Max Estate Properties were the listing agents. Scott also represented the buyer.
