Producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall are the buyers of the Brentwood home of late “Golden Girls” star Bea Arthur. The Spanish-style house recently sold for $14.925 million.
The Cliff May-designed house was remodeled and expanded to 6,000 square feet since it was built in the 1920s. May, usually associated with California Ranch-style designs, was known for his indoor-outdoor approach to residential architecture.
A two-story stone-clad entry marks the front of the house. Inside, a vaulted beamed ceiling, skylights and a fireplace are among the living room’s details. The kitchen flows into a great room with another fireplace.
Other living spaces include a formal dining room, a bar, an art studio, a den, a gym, a library/study, a media room, dual offices, five bedrooms, five full bathrooms and a powder room.
The four acres of grounds include such amenities as a swimming pool with a spa, trails and a tennis court. Mature oaks and sycamore trees dot the grounds.
Kennedy, 62, is known for the box-office drawing “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” and the “Jurassic Park” films and is working on several “Star Wars” projects. She, Marshall and filmmaker Steven Spielberg founded Amblin Entertainment.
Marshall, 68, has produced such blockbusters as “The Sixth Sense,” “Back to the Future” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” He is working on sequels to the “Indiana Jones,” “Bourne” and “Jurassic Park” film series.
Arthur, who died in 2009 at 86, won Emmys for “The Golden Girls” and “Maude.”
